In December of 2002, several families in the Burnet area began discussing the possibility of a new non-denominational church in the Burnet area. About this time, a former pastor of First Baptist, Burnet visited the area and met with these people to explore the idea further. After several exploratory meetings, the first worship service was held on March 9, 2003 at the Holiday Inn Express in Burnet. The original core group consisted of 28 people. God drew people rapidly as news spread of His new work. No advertising was done, just the core group of people telling others brought many more. The desire was a church that adheres to the teaching and example of Jesus Christ as found in the Bible. We believe people come because they feel a need for spiritual fulfillment and our desire is to help them by connecting with the person of Jesus Christ. We believe everyone should be welcomed into our fellowship and when they want to become a member they should be committed to the teachings of the Bible and have accepted Christ as their personal Savior. After approximately 6 months of training for core group, our growth, now approximately 70 per week caused the church to move to a new location with more space. We leased 1,350 square feet on Hwy 29 East in Burnet and moved September 2003. Shortly after that, the elders of the new church were chosen and confirmed at a special ceremony.
God continued to bring people and we soon outgrew our space on East Hwy 29. We began discussing the possibility of purchasing our own property. We contacted the Johnson family, owners of the complex of buildings previously housing the local Ford business. They were very amenable to the church owning their property and offered us very acceptable terms. In June 2004, the church became the new owners for a total price of $280,000. Our initial plans were to provide a worship center and class rooms for our children. God brought many volunteers and the build out was accomplished. We moved the church into our new home for ministry August 1, 2004. This was accomplished by many faithful families completing pledges to give over and above their regular giving. In January 2005, our pastor resigned and Rodney McGee was asked to serve as interim pastor. On May 1, 2005, the elders asked Rodney to become the full-time pastor and he accepted. God continued to bring more people seeking Him and we soon found the space which was previously an auto dealership showroom to be completely filled, even with 2 services on Sunday morning. The elders decided to build out a portion of the dealership repair shop area for a new worship center. On June 12, 2005, we held our first service in our new worship center. The approximate weekly attendance at this time was a total of 335 adults and children. Today we continue to grow and develop thanks to God's great grace. We invite everyone to come and join us on Sunday mornings at 8:00AM, 9:30AM, and 11:15AM to praise and worship His name. |
